Started in 2017, CIL’s flagship CSR project- “Thalassemia Bal Seva Yojana” has crossed the 250 beneficiary mark. A financial benefit scheme towards curative treatment of Thalassemia and Aplastic Anaemia, the project is running in nine prominent hospitals across India and is under the guidance of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs.10 Lakh is provided for eligible child patients for bone marrow transplant, a permanent cure for these diseases. Keeping with the spirit of CSR, families from low-income groups have been made eligible to avail this benefit.

CIL was adjudged as the Runner Up under among PSUs in the category of CSR Projects with value more than Rs. 50 lakhs in the 9th Business Responsibility & Project Excellence Contest by All India Management Association (AIMA) on 4th August 2022. The award was received for its Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana. CIL was represented by Sh. Nitish Pareek & Sh. Sachin B, executives of CSR Department.

CIL's skill development programme for the local youth in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Angul districts of Odisha has turned out to be a boon after all. The youth after successful training have been bagging jobs. 82 of the 115 youth trained by CIL have joined reputed companies like Amara Raja group & Motherson India Ltd. The remaining 33 candidates have either opted for local employment or have turned entrepreneurs.

CIL in this ongoing skill development programme is imparting training to 450 youth in three districts of Odisha to become qualified electricians, welders and auto technicians. CIL is bearing the entire cost of the project including boarding and lodging.

CIL has signed an MoU with Sulabh International for the construction of seven ‘Public Toilet Complexes’ near the operational areas of Central Coalfields Ltd. at a cost of ₹2.10 Crore. The MoU was signed in the presence of Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, CIL, Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International and Vinay Ranjan, Director – P&IR, CIL.

Sulabh International will construct Public Toilet Complexes (Sulabh Shauchalaya) in Tandwa, Chatra, Bhalumath, Tori, Phusro Bazaar, Ramgarh & near Rajrappa temple, in Jharkhand. Each toilet complex will have separate bathing and urinal facilities; five for men, two for women and one for the physically challenged. These public toilets will be beneficial to daily workers and the poor who do not having access to proper sanitation facilities. This will also help those women who lack access to proper sanitation facilities and are deprived of a secure environment for their sanitation needs.

Project Jyotsana is a project for promotion of safe Menstrual Hygiene practices among women. Under this project, Menstrual cups are being distributed to 20,000 women in 2 districts of Jharkhand. M-cups are a low cost and safe alternative to sanitary napkins whose high cost is a hurdle in their adoption. The project will not only help women in adopting safe menstrual hygiene methods but will also reduce the pollution from disposal from sanitary pads as the cups are reusable for upto 5 years and are biodegradable. IEC campaign and training is an important component of the project.

Earlier a pilot study was done in Kerala for the project and the results were highly encouraging.

Coal India’s CSR initiative “Project Naadan Buddha” for the rehabilitation of Divyangs in association with Arushi Society, Bhopal has received appreciation from eminent lyricist, poet, author, screenwriter and film director Shri Gulzar.

In a unique CSR initiative, CIL has tied up with Arushi Society, a not-for-profit organisation in Bhopal and is helping rehabilitate 40 differently abled children to undergo need based training in the form of special education, music, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, by special educators and therapists. The initiative aims to prepare the differently abled children with school readiness skills, functional skills and activities of normal daily living in order to bring them into the mainstream of society.

CIL is providing financial assistance under CSR for Rehabilitation, Vocational Training and Employability of persons with disabilities and youth from under privileged communities in view of COVID-19 Pandemic.

CIL has provided CSR grant for construction of Lab, Library, Classrooms and Hostel facility at Nivedita Siksha Sadan Balika Inter Collage in Varanasi, UP

CIL under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav has funded for running of Wellness Centres in 2 village in Jharkhand and 3 villages of Odisha for improvement in Mental and Physical Well being of Village Community people especially youths who are involved in unsocial activities like gambling, smoking etc. The project aims at creating a healthy atmosphere inside community villages and create positive impact on their mental well being to uplift the community from social ill practices.

Coal India under its CSR initiative is running Thalessemia Bal Sewa Yojana, a scheme for curative treatment of Thalessemia and Aplastic anaemia. Under this scheme financial support for upto Rs. 10.00 Lakhs is provided for Bone Marrow Transplant in eight prominent hospital spread across the country.

Establishing Hostel facility at Vidya Bharti School, Govindanagar, Hoshangabad

CIL has supported in developing multi-speciality diagnosis and health care centre at Faridabad, Haryana. The construction works is under process and the project will be completed by the end of 2022.
