Coal India launches its Corporate Web Portal on 34th Foundation Day

In step with the giant strides it has been making in technology upgradation across the organisation and its assets, Coal India Limited unveiled its Corporate Web Portal at a glittering function on the auspicious occasion of the 34th Coal India Foundation Day on November 1, 2009. The Portal was inaugurated by Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal, Hon’ble Minister of State for Coal, Statistics & Programme Implementation (Independent Charge) at Kolkata, in the presence of Shri C. Balakrishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Shri Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, and Shri Partha S Bhattacharya, Chairman, Coal India Limited, besides other dignitaries, company employees and guests.

The Portal comprises two distinct yet inter-woven sections: the first, the Corporate Website, contains information regarding Coal India for the reference of its external stakeholders, including investors, customers, media and the public; the second, the Employee Portal, contains information and applications for the exclusive use of Coal India employees. The contents are available in both English and Hindi wherever applicable.

The Corporate Portal includes sections about Coal India’s corporate details, business information and media coverage. It also has interactive systems such as Tenders, Careers, Customer Management and Grievance Management that will allow Coal India’s stakeholders direct and real-time access to its Key Executives and core external processes. This is expected to enhance the stakeholder management process, bring transparency, timeliness and relevancy in information dissemination and management of public matters, and consequently build organisational visibility and credibility in India, and globally.

The Employee Portal comprises productions reports of Coal India and its subsidiaries, news reports about internal matters, and a direct link to the Coal India Chairman. It has comprehensive information on HR, Administrative and Safety / Rescue utilities, including the employee directory, employee-specific medical, leave and remuneration data, transfer and promotion lists, and handy features such as Holiday Homes Status and ticketing. It also features links to announcements, notices, manuals, and rules and regulations documents.

On the anvil, to be deployed shortly, is an Internal Communication System linked to the Employee Portal, which will allow Coal Indians to chat and video-conference with each other. The Portal is expected to provide faster communication and help bring immediacy to operations.
