Mr. N C Jha assumes additional charge as Chairman, Coal India Limited Mar 01, 2011
Mr. Nirmal Chandra Jha, took over as Chairman, Coal India Limited, the state owned coal mining PSU, on 1 March 2011 in addition to his present charge as Director (Technical), CIL. Mr. Partha S Bhattacharyya the outgoing Chairman laid down his office on 28, February 2011 on attaining superannuation.
Mr. Jha, relinquished the additional charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bilaspur based South Eastern Coalfields Limited, the largest coal producing subsidiary of CIL, which he held for the past 9 months. Mr. A K Singh, CMD, Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) the Ranchi based mine planning and consultancy arm of CIL, took over the additional charge as CMD, SECL.
Mr. Jha, a Post-Graduate in Mining Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, has a rich and varied experience in Coal Industry for over three decades. He has worked in various departments of CIL in various capacities - CMPDI, Sales & Marketing, Coal Resource Development etc. As Director (Technical) of CIL he played a pivotal role in introduction of many mining oriented initiatives that led the company to greater heights.
Mr. Jha has been conferred National Geo Science Award 2009 by the Vice President of India for his outstanding contribution in the field of Mining Technology. He is a Member of the Coal Mining Task Force of Asia Pacific Partnership of Clean Development and Climate. He had also led Mining Geological & Metallurgical Institute as its President for two years (2008-2010).
