Ms. Zohra Chatterji new CMD, Coal India Limited

Ms. Zohra Chatterji, IAS, Additional Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Coal, has assumed additional charge as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Coal India Limited on 1 February 2012. Ms. Chatterji succeeds Mr. N C Jha, who relinquished his office on 31 January 2012 on attaining superannuation.

Ms. Zohra Chatterji, is an Indian Administrative Services Officer of 1979 batch from UP Cadre. She has over three decades of rich varied administrative experience serving in various government departments in U.P and in the Central Government. She has served over ten years in various positions related to Industry and Labour. Important positions held by her include Commissioner & Director Industries, Labour Commissioner U.P, Secretary Industries U.P and Joint Secretary, Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.

Ms. Chatterji was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for implementing an e-governance project “Lokvani” for redressal of public grievances in UP. She also set up “E-Suvidha” an e-governance project in Lucknow and the UP Trade Promotion Authority as its first Member Secretary.

Ms. Chatterji is a First Class Post Graduate in English Literature and a graduate of B.Sc. Hons. (Physics).
