35th Foundation Day Ceremony of Coal India limited Nov 01, 2010
Coal India Limited celebrated its 35th Foundation Day on 1st November, 2010. The day’s ceremony began at 10.00 am with the unfurling of the flag at the roof-top of Coal Bhawan by Shri Partha S Bhattacharyya, Chairman CIL amidst an august gathering of stalwarts of the coal industry comprising of Former Chairmen and Functional Directors of CIL the present Functional Directors of CIL. The weather Gods smiled at CIL and thus the slight drizzle during the unfurling of the flag as if an indication of the super debut of CIL’s share at the stock exchange.
The morning session of the programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp at Bengal Chamber of Commerce by Shri C. Balakrishna, Secretary Coal, Shri Partha S. Bhattacharyya, Chairman CIL, Shri NC Jha, Director(T), CIL, Shri R. Mohan Das, D(P&IR), CIL, Shri AK Sinha, Director(F), CIL, Shri NR Banerjeee, CVO CIL and other dignitaries.
Shri N.C Jha D(T) gave the welcome address wherein he outlined the achievements of CIL in the recent past.
Shri Partha S Bhattacharyya, Chairman CIL spoke on the occasion and narrated his experiences of meeting investors during the road shows and explaining to them the transformation of CIL and its growth story. Shri MP Narayan, former Chairman CIL delivered the prestigious JG Kumarmangalam Memorial lecture.
The session ended with a vote of thanks which was given by Shri R Mohan Das Director (P&IR) CIL.
In the evening, the prize distribution ceremony as well as the cultural function was held at Science City Auditorium.
Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal, Hon’ble MoS (IC) for Coal, Statistics & Programme Implementation was the Chief Guest of the evening session. While addressing the audience the Hon’ble Minister congratulated the management and staff of CIL for the excellent response the CIL IPO had received. Shri C. Balakrishnan, Secretary Coal and Shri Partha S. Bhattacharyya, Chairman CIL also spoke on the occasion.

Prizes were given to the officers and staff in various categories for their excellences in various disciplines such as "Innovation in the Non Technical category for the E-Despatch system to officers of Mahanadi Coalfileds Limited. For Innovation in Forex Treasury Management officers of CIL Finance Division were awarded the prizes. The IPO team was also given awards for their valuable contribution in IPO. Smt Munna Devi, Shovel operator, BCCL and Smt Badani Majihan, Shovel Operator, ECL was awarded prizes for excellence in their services. The bravery award was given posthumously to Late Naresh Paswan, Ex Security Guard ECL. Narendra Singh, Overman NEC and MK Pandey Mannager Bnhowra Colliery and his team were also given Bravery awards. The 1st and 2nd prize for best implementation of the RTI act was given to CCL and CMPDIL respectively. Awards were also given to the winners of Snehua Cup, China. SECL was awarded first prize for Corporate Performance and WCL bagged the 2nd prize in this category. Durgapur Opencast project of WCL was awarded the 1st prize, while Gevra Project SECL was given the 2nd prize in the Environment Management Award category and CMPDIL was awarded the Special prize in the Environment Management Award category.
The programme ended with a befitting tribute to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s on his 150th birth anniversary through a cultural programme. Shri Soumitra Chatterjee and Shri Gulzar recited Tagore’s poems on the occasion. Pandit Ajoy Chakarborthy and Kavita Krishnamurthy sang Tagores songs.
