Mr. P S Bhattacharyya, Chairman, CIL conferred with National Award

Mr. Partha S Bhattacharyya, Chairman, Coal India Limited was conferred with the coveted “Swami Vivekananda National Award – 2011” for Corporate Leadership on 13 January 2011 at Siri Fort Auditorium New Delhi in an awards function organized by ‘Ramakrishna – Vivekananda International Foundation’.


Mr. Partha S Bhattacharyya, Chairman, CIL receiving the ‘Corporate Excellence Award’ from Shri Shekhar Dutt, His Excellency, Governor of Chattisgarh in the presence of Smt. Ambika Soni, Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India at the Swami Vivekananda National Awards Ceremony, on 13 January 2011 in New Delhi.


The award was in recognition of Mr. Bhattacharyya’s outstanding contribution towards Strategic Initiatives and Public Sector Management especially in the coal mining management. The awards were recommended by a committee of luminaries under the chairmanship of Justice A M Ahmadi, (former) Hon’ble Chief Justice of India.

The award was presented by Smt. Ambika Soni, Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India and Shri Shekhar Dutt, His Excellency Governor of Chattisgarh at “National congress on building new India through excellence in education & Swami Vivekananda National Awards Ceremony” which was a part of 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda.

In his acceptance address, Mr. Bhattacharyya dedicated the award to the generations of Coal India employees who for the past three and half decades have contributed to the growth of the company with perseverance and dedication which resulted in Coal India turning around from that of a loss making company to now the largest coal producing company in the world with a market capitalization of Rs. 200,000 Crores.

The highly prestigious awards were instituted by Late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1984 on the eve of 125th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda to recognize and value the contribution made towards nation building by illustrious personalities from varied spheres.
